The state of California is located on the West Coast of the United States. It is the most populous state in the Union, as well as the third largest in terms of land, behind Alaska and Texas. Some of the country's highest populated cities are in California, namely Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. Most of the state's residents live in three metro areas, which are Los Angeles, San Francisco and Riverside-San Bernardino (a nearby suburb of Los Angeles). The nation's 31st state was welcomed to the Union in 1850. The first incorporated city in the state is also its capital, Sacramento, which is located in the central part of the state. The state's economy is the eighth largest in the world. It is absolutely one of the most beautiful states in the entire country because of its beaches, mountains, deserts and its world famous national parks. Any luxury hotel California offers will warmly welcome visitors to "the Golden State".

The largest city in the state and the second largest in the country is Los Angeles, located in the southern part of the state, on the coast. Los Angeles is most famous for being the home of the movie industry, in Hollywood. The Disneyland theme park is also here, in Anaheim, in nearby Orange County.

San Diego is located in the southern end of the state, on the Pacific coast. The most famous attraction here is the zoo, which houses 4,000 animals and is located in Balboa Park, over 100 acres. Also, Sea World is in San Diego and has marine animal exhibits and shows. One of the city's most unusual attractions, the USS Midway aircraft carrier, is on the bay.

In northern California, lies San Francisco. The most famous landmarks in this historic city are Alcatraz, an island that houses a former federal penitentiary and, of course, the Golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco's Chinatown neighborhood is one of the most famous and oldest in the country.

For a trip to the desert, Death Valley National Park is not to be missed. It was designated a national park in 1994 and it is located east of the Sierra Nevada, in southern Inyo County and northern San Bernardino County in Eastern California. The park is 5,262 square miles. The desert park is the hottest and driest of all the national parks. The second-lowest point in the Western Hemisphere is in Death Valley National Park, at Badwater Basin, which is 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley National Park is visited yearly by over 770,000 visitors.

Yosemite National Park is located in the eastern portions of Tuolumne, Mariposa and Madera Counties in east/central California. The park is made up of 761,268 acres and almost four million people visit the park every year. This park is internationally known for its granite cliffs, waterfalls and Giant Sequoia groves (totaling almost 250 trees). Yosemite National Park was inherently important in the development of national parks in the United States, thanks to the efforts of early conservationist, John Muir.

The state has more major professional sports teams than any other, totaling 19. The metro San Francisco area, which encompasses San Jose and Oakland, is home to seven Major League teams and Los Angeles is home to ten. San Diego is home to two and Sacramento home to one. The oldest college bowl game in the nation, the annual Rose Bowl, is held in Pasadena, near Los Angeles. In 1960, California hosted the Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley Resort, near Lake Tahoe. In 1932 and again in 1984, the Summer Olympic games were held in Los Angeles. In 1994, Los Angeles hosted the FIFA World Cup. Auto racing is a prominent sport in the state, particularly in metro Los Angeles. Long Beach hosts the IRL IndyCar Series downtown. Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, hosts NASCAR races. The Auto Club Raceway at Pomona hosts NHRA drag races, as it has for more than 50 years.

Whether visiting California for pleasure, or for business, any luxury hotel California offers will be a comfortable and safe home away from home. Amenity-rich and convenient, a stay in any luxury hotel California provides will convince every traveler of the state's many attractive qualities.
